What is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim?

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is a fantasy roleplaying game published by Bethesda Softworks on November 11th, 2011, on Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. It is the fifth mainline game in the Elder Scrolls franchise, with three major DLCs - Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn.

200 years after the events of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Tamriel is reeling after the events of the Great War. The Imperial Empire, gagged by the Aldmeri Dominion, bans the worship of the man-god Talos. Ulfric Stormcloak, Jarl of Windhelm and leader of the Stormcloaks, assassinates the High King Torygg in a bid to break Skyrim away from the Empire's rule, descending the province into chaos. You, adventurer, are caught in the crossfire of an Imperial ambush in the Jerall Mountains - gagged and carted to Helgen to meet your demise. As your head meets the chopping block, the world-eater Alduin arrives with the return of the dragons in his wake.

Skyrim has garnered reknown for the way it revolutionized gaming in its generation and inspired innumerous other open world games. It has solidified as a household name through both its widespread success and its huge memetic potential, from classics such as the line "I used to be an adventurer like you, until I got an arrow in the knee", to more modern memes like the umpteenth rerelease of Skyrim. There is something to be said about Bethesda in its current state, especially what with Starfield's release being such a whimper in comparison and Bethesda's insistence on trying to milk this bad boy as much as possible, but I'd be lying if I said that this game doesn't have a place in my heart.

This webshrine is dedicated to the game, my experiences and love for it, and other notable information that I wanted to include.
